Offline Mode: Install NoteKraft as an App
NoteKraft is not just a website; it is technically a Progressive Web Application (PWA). This means you can install NoteKraft directly to your desktop or smartphone home screen. Once installed, it looks and behaves exactly like a native appβand it runs perfectly even if you turn off your Wi-Fi.
Why Work Offline?
As we detailed in our Distraction-Free Writing Guide, the internet is the enemy of deep work. If your browser is open, you are one click away from Reddit or YouTube. By installing NoteKraft as an offline PWA, you can physically turn off your internet router and still have full access to our suite of text formatting tools and notepad.
How to Install on Desktop (Chrome / Edge)
- Open NoteKraft in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
- Look at the URL address bar at the top of the browser. On the far right side of the bar, you will see an icon that looks like a monitor with a downward arrow (or a plus sign `+`).
- Click that icon. A prompt will appear asking if you want to "Install app?"
- Click "Install". NoteKraft will immediately open in its own dedicated, chromeless window (no browser tabs or bookmarks bar).
- You can now pin NoteKraft to your Windows Taskbar or macOS Dock!
How to Install on Mobile (iOS / Safari)
Apple does not allow standard PWA installation prompts, but you can still force it using Safari:
- Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad and navigate to NoteKraft.
- Tap the "Share" button at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down the list of options and tap "Add to Home Screen".
- Tap "Add" in the top right corner.
- NoteKraft will now appear as a standalone app icon next to your other iOS apps. When you tap it, it will open without the Safari interface.
How Offline Saving Works
Even if you are completely offline, your typed text is still safely auto-saved. The NoteKraft PWA utilizes Service Workers to run the local storage saving mechanisms independently of a network connection. When you eventually turn your Wi-Fi back on, the app does not "sync" to the cloudβit continues pulling from that secure local cache on your hard drive.
Note: While the core editing tools work entirely offline, you will need an active internet connection to load new editorial Guide pages you haven't visited before.
